DISCOGRAPHY
Albums
'Music From Slate Bird' features an eclectic mix of rock, new age, folk, and electronic. From the folk-rock inspired 'Blue-Eyed Girl From Kilkenny' to the electronic whisperings of the 'Orb Forest Suite', there's something here for all music lovers. Check out 'Saturn-by-the-Sea' or 'Heliopolis - City of the Gods' for a slice of vintage psychedelic rock, or 'Midnight in Cincinnati' for a more classy take on the pop/rock format. There's plenty more acoustic tracks in the shape of 'Fingal's Cave', 'The Swordfish', and 'The Raven', while, if soundtracks are your thing, have a listen to 'Red is the Heart of the Rose'...there's a TV series theme in there somewhere!

Lemonhead Drive
Album • 98 min
'Lemonhead Drive' is a musical excursion into a disturbing, abstract Americana, exploring the themes of love, suburban life, alienation, and paranoia. 'Erin Walks the Dog Wearing Bubblegum Shades' and 'Drive-In With Cindy' are simply playful pop tunes, while 'The Street Where Tammy Lives' and 'A Sacramento Affair' are poignant musical love stories. 'My Day-Glo Garden', 'Dark Ferris', and 'Lockdown in Tinseltown', change the mood to a much darker tone, leading into 'Virus Gun' and 'Made in Wuhan', which exude paranoia to the extreme. '19 Ways to Fly', 'Nuke', and 'Cars That Have Men In Black Written All Over Them' continue this theme, though 'Big Deal in Electro City' is an excellent slice of uplifting electronica, which leads, eventually to the experimental 'Lockdown Dream Trilogy' and 'Hail the Dead Presidents'.
Exotic Plants and Flowers
Album • 98 min
As the title implies, 'Exotic Plants and Flowers' is an album built on the unusual. The opening track, simply called 'Prayer', is an organ-based, musical ode to the powers of nature. 'The House on Haight Street' couldn't be any different, and sounds more like a live psychedelic-rock jam than a studio track - had local radio play with this one. 'Exoplanet' is the first of several 'space' orientated tracks, joining 'Pleiades Star Glider', 'A Machine In Time', 'Betelgeuse', and 'The Girl From Zeta Reticuli' on a wild cosmic stage. 'Sun Forest', 'Space Tribe', and 'Off-World Retro' continue is the vein, but in a more subtle way, while 'Through the Pod Door' has enough sound effects to match those of any sci-fi film. Both 'Scorch Wizard' and 'Circus Waltz' flirt with a romanticized past, though 'Uzone-25' is distinctly futuristic in nature. A rare and exotic album, even if I say so myself.
SUN CAFE
Album • 60 min, 69 sec
'Sun Cafe' owes its origins to the jazz-orientated 'Saturn-by-the-Sea' and 'Breakfast With Alice'. Both of these tracks were conceived as 'beat' numbers that would open a new album of jazz-tinged compositions; however, in the end, a number of more diverse tunes found their way into the mix, and the album, as we know it, appeared. 'Inanna, Queen of Heaven', 'Once Upon a Summer Night', and 'Neostatic' all have a clean, modern feel. 'The Eighth Tower', 'The Hanging Gardens of Titan', and 'Sirens of Atlantis' flirt with fantasy themes. 'The Girl From Pacific Palisades' is one of my most accomplished tracks, and is pleasantly retro in its outlook. 'Paradise Star' and 'Encounter With Mimi' ooze vintage sci-fi while, 'The River' is unashamedly New Age in its outlook. Although undisciplined, 'Sun Cafe' is home to many of my favourite compositions.
Super Skull Music
Album • 78 min, 69 sec
'Super Skull Music' is a fun-filled, quasi-psychedelic concept album. The rock-orientated 'Beyond Echo Park' opens the proceedings on a high note, its layered electric guitars cascading into the abstract meanderings of 'Sunshine Super Car'. 'We Are Hong Kong', 'Island of the Alchemist', and 'West Coast' introduce semi-exotic themes to the mix, while 'Raza, Robot Queen' and 'Pixie Loves Candy' have leanings toward the fantastic. 'Super Skull Music', 'Dawntreader Bay', 'Shores of Naxos', 'Kon-Tiki Star', and 'Jenny Lighthouse' touch on the nautical feel of the album, and the lengthy 'Axe Over Frisco' features some excellent, improvised lead guitar work, and completes the album.
Singing Rock Lake
Album • 65 min
With its distinct Americana overtones, 'Singing Rock Lake' is an all-time favourite of mine. The haunting title track, which opens the album, sets the stage for one of my best rock-orientated compositions, 'Eco Warrior'. This New Age anthem sets its own standards, and features some cool lead guitar breaks. Two tracks from this album had radio play, namely 'The Righteous (Apache MIx)' and 'Sweet Mountain Jam'. 'Palaeolithic Spirits' is a thumping slice of psychedelic mayhem, while 'Nomad', 'Santa-Fe Senora', and 'Three is a Saffron Crown' have a more mysterious feel. There's a live feel to 'Jamming at the Geronimo', and 'Killer on Highway 18' features some excellent synth work. All in all, an exciting, uplifting album.
The Mechanics of Moth Light
Album • 42 min, 57 sec
'The Mechanics of Moth Light' is a synth-based concept album, featuring the Korg M50 synthesizer and the Yamaha MODX6 synth workstation. This 12 track album explores the twilight world of inner city alienation. 'Factory Motion', 'Angel Tube', and 'Fields of London' are abstract excursions into a hallucinatory, disintegrating night-time, London landscape. 'Dust Green', 'Celestial Neon', and 'Vox 23 (SW9 Mix)' offer but a brief interlude of light and hope within this bleak world, but are soon overshadowed by the spiralling ''Vorpal Head', 'Hive Machine', 'Peroxide Blonde', and 'Moth Light'. 'In Every Bright Room' and 'At Home With Mr and Mrs Smith' unify the album with the possibility of change and renewal.
On the Wall
Album • 79 min
'On The Wall' contains a plethora of diverse musical styles. There's a touch of electronica, in the shape of 'Andromeda Express' and 'Feel Nocturno', and also a good helping of acoustic guitar - within the strains of the whimsical 'Sunny Beach Street', and 'The Mermaid with an Angel's Name'. 'The Night Service' features two separate choirs, and brings to mind a distant winter church service, complete with falling snow and an icy wind. 'Big Sky Ocean' and 'Lost Valley of the Fire King' both evince a burgeoning New Age feel, while 'Still Life from a Balcony' has a bright, modern pop feel to it. 'Incident at Vinegar Gulch' revisits the ever-popular Neo-Western genre, and 'The Piper of Old Detroit' searches the streets of Detroit for a lost, musical vagabond. My favourite track, here, is 'Angelino Heights'. In this composition, I tried to create the same suburban American feel I lavished on tracks like 'The Girl From Pacific Palisades' and 'L.A. Suburbs'.
Persephone Bay
Album • 59 min, 48 sec
'Persephone Bay' is a compilation album featuring some of my best acoustic tracks, such as 'Swordfish', 'Fingal's Cave', 'Blue-Eyed Girl From Kilkenny', and 'A Stroll Through Chelsea with Miss Magpie'. I've thrown in a couple of rock-based compositions too, in the shape of 'Eco Warrior' and 'Oracle of the Wildwood'. On the whole, there is a subtle connection with the sea and the ocean on this album. Check out the amazing 'King Sol and the Merwoman', and 'Fire Island Girl' for sheer diversity.
Tales from the Blue Machine
Album • 59 min, 48 sec
An early compilation album, 'Tales From the Blue Machine', is the only album here that features five of my all-time favourite tracks, namely 'Night Flight From Electro City', 'Dark Ferris', 'The Girl from Pacific Palisades', 'Saturn-by-the Sea' and 'Incident on Cyprus Boulevard'. The opener, ''Pepper Tree Zen', was originally conceived as the title track for a new album, but I decided to use it here instead - the track finally finding a place on 'Singing Rock Lake'. 'Exoplanet', 'Space Tribe', and 'The Girl from Zeta Reticuli' add a distinct otherworldliness to the mix, while 'Ocean City Groove' has a 'fade out' that any self-respecting composer would die for.
